The season we all look forward to is here - it's time for pumpkin picking in New Jersey! If you are planning a outing with the little ones, we've got just the spot for you. During one of our weekend explorations, we landed at the vibrant and welcoming Indian Acres Tree Farm. Here's everything you need to know about this local favorite.
Playground: No Entry Fee

In a time where free fun spots are rare, Indian Acres stands out, offering a playground with no entry fee. This place is crafted for children aged between 1 and 5 years, ensuring they have ample spaces and activities to explore and enjoy.
From a giant haybale & rope mazes where they can run and find their way out, to a sandbox kitchen encouraging imaginative play — the farm offers a range of activities. And let’s not forget the boat playset that promises great climbing and sliding fun. Our little one couldn't get enough of the sandbox kitchen, serving us one pretend dish after another.
A few of the activities have a fee, but most of the play area is free. The giant sorghum maze, barrel train ride, and wagon rides to pick pumpkins have a charge. The wagon ride is fairly long and enjoyable, so it’s more than just a ride out to the fields.
Pumpkin Picking
The hayride was an attraction in itself, there are various decorations in the trees on the way, so the journey to the field was never boring. When we arrived at the field, there were many pumpkins divided by size, making it easy to find the perfect fit for our childern. Our kids found their perfect pumpkins and we had them measured at a tent in the fields. The fee for the pumpkins is based on the size and paid on the way out. For those in a hurry, you can also buy pumpkins without picking.
A Warm and Friendly Atmosphere
We noticed the warm and welcoming atmosphere the moment we stepped in. The local vibe is enhanced by the friendly staff, who carry an easy-going attitude, making the visit pleasant and relaxed. This is definitely an easy going, South Jersey farm.
Food and Refreshments
While the food window serves items such as apple cider doughnuts and coffee, we found it better to bring our own snacks. The food is not this farms strongest point, but it’s there if you need a hot drink or forgot to bring your own. Packing a picnic ensured that we had our kid’s favorite treats to enjoy when they take a break from playing.
Tips for a Smooth Visit
Stroller Alert: If a hayride is on your list, remember strollers aren't allowed. Opt for a baby backpack to keep the youngest members of the family comfortable.
Clothing: The fall weather can be quite chilly, especially as your kids will want to stay for while! Dressing in layers will ensure that you are comfortable throughout your visit and bring a warmer coat then you think you might need.
Arrive early: The farm gets quite popular during the fall, especially on the weekends. Arrive early to beat the rush and find easy parking.
A Deeper Look into the Playground

What the little ones can expect, these are all free:
Sandbox Kitchen: This was a clear favorite for daughter. A space where kids can use their imagination to the fullest, a full play kitchen set was setup in a giant sandbox. Our daughter couldn’t get enough of serving us sand on a plate that she had baked in the oven.
Corn Box: Like a sandbox, but filled with dried corn! It’s a fun fall twist on the classic favorites and parents will love that it’s just slightly less messy than a traditional sandbox.
Boat Playset: A set-up encouraging physical activity, where kids can climb and enjoy a slide, much as you’d find in many high quality parks.
Train set & tractor: Kid sized wooden trains to climb through as well as a tractor with a wagon and slide off the back.
Giant Tires: Half buried large truck tires for the kids to climb all over.

Our day at Indian Acres Tree Farm was a ten on ten. The major highlight was the excellent value for money it offers, especially with the free entry to the playground.
